The Silken Windsprite

Therapy companion dog - visiting dog

The Silken Windspirte is a breed that is well suited to therapeutic use due to its calm and sensitive nature.

In order to use the Silken Windsprite as a therapy dog, certain requirements must be met.

Depending on the area of operation, the training (theory and practice) of dog and handler takes 1-2 years or longer.

To be trained, the Windsprite must be in good health and at least one year old. He must be regularly vaccinated and dewormed.

The areas of application are diverse:

- Kindergartens

- Senior and nursing homes

- Hospice facilities

- Hospitals

and much more

Greyhound racing

On the greyhound racing track, the Silken Windsprite can show what he's capable of.

Before the dog is allowed to compete with others, it must undergo special racing training.

The dogs start from starting boxes directly onto the track, which is usually a sandy surface. A dummy, the "artificial hare", is pulled in front of them and the sight hunters sprint after it.

Mantrailing

Mantrailing is the search for people with the help of dogs.

The Silken Windsprite takes great pleasure in this work.

A dog's sense of smell is much better developed than that of a human. With its friendly and sensitive nature, the Silken Windsprit is well suited to searching for people.

A meaningful activity that brings as much joy to the dog as to the handler.

Agility

Because of their quick comprehension, Silken Windsprites are ideal for the dog sport agility.

In agility, the dog has to complete an existing course in a specific order.

Typical agility obstacles include the seesaw, the slalom, the tunnel and various hurdles.

Family dog

The Silken Windsprite is a versatile companion who can also be a great family dog.

He feels at home in a family when he is a fully integrated member of the family whose special needs are taken into account. Children with a calm, balanced energy are a good fit for the Windsprite. Dog and child can become great companions.

However, the heartfelt desire to adopt one of these wonderful creatures into the family should always come from the parents.
