Being

The Silken Windsprite is a small greyhound who loves racing. At home he is calm and very pleasant to be around. He can lie dozing on the armchair or sofa for hours. Outside he is an enthusiastic sprinter, inside he is a real couch potato.

Although they are fast hunters and hunt by sight, most Windsprites have a medium to low prey drive. However, you should always be aware that you have a fast sighthound by your side when you are out walking.

Most Silken Windsprites can be easily let off the leash outdoors, but you should always keep a close eye on your surroundings to keep the fast sprinter and sight hunter under control.

The Silken Windsprite has good social skills. He shows little potential for aggression towards other dogs. He is very people-oriented and friendly and would like to be there everywhere.

He is very adaptable, intelligent and attentive and wants to please his owner.

Windsprites love being with their family, preferably with close physical contact. They are very social dogs and do well with other dogs. A greyhound partner would be ideal.

Education and attitude

The Silken Windsprite is a fast sight hunter. It is therefore essential to place great emphasis on a reliable recall when training. It is a good idea to train recall as well as impulse control even when the dog is a puppy.

The Silken Windsprite should always be trained carefully and playfully. He is not a classic command taker like a working dog. He learns very quickly, but is a sensitive student who does not need a firm hand or a loud voice. On the contrary, he loves to learn skills with his owner in a playful way. He quickly becomes bored with lots of repetition and repetitive tasks.

The Silken Windsprite is a very devoted dog to his people. Being left alone for long periods of time and in a hectic environment are not for him. He prefers a quiet environment with a structured daily routine.

Even though the Silken Windsprite is a greyhound and therefore a sporty dog, he doesn't need to run outside for hours. He should be allowed to run free every day so that he can really let off steam with a sprint or play with other dogs to his heart's content.

The Windsprite would certainly like a nice garden that is well fenced.
